A Brief Play
(ft Princess Diana & River Phoenix)
(Act 1)
High again in Los Angeles. Drunk in Paris.
Predictable and boundless
Another garden in the desert full of tender fruit and fear
Another blonde to take home
To shoot the moon for and take its halo
(Act 2)
Alone in his bed, another holiday, never playing in the band
Never a morning
Never royal
This city is burning again, making them eternal
(Act 3)
They drove miles to the motel just to see the bodies they had brought
Delicate and patient
Jewels on bruised limbs knotted and asleep, losing value from every touch
Shining in dark rooms. Ripe for the taking
Heaven was a windowless room but still too far
(Act 4)
Smoke rolled in from the hills, late night calls were not answered
Watching the eclipse together only to see the moon become more sky
(Act 5)
Someone said I love you, the other was busy. Changing the world or growing fruit in the garden.
For another summer, another poem, another apparence to collapse in the sun.
Becoming rotting peaches in July. And nothing will ever be that sweet again.
